Three Vietnamese short films will be screened at four international film festivals this year.

‘The Scent of Fish Sauce’ by Trinh Dinh Le Minh and ‘Another City’ by Pham Ngoc Lan will both be sent to the Palm Springs International ShortFest in the U.S. which runs from June 21 to 26.

According to the festival’s website, ‘The Scent of Fish Sauce’ tells the story of Mai, a Vietnamese nurse living in the U.S., and how romance takes a strange turn after she turns an injured American man onto the pleasure of Vietnamese cooking.

“I am happy knowing my movie will attend the Palm Springs International ShortFest,” director Trinh Dinh Le Minh shared with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. “It’s an invitation to the world of feature films.”

‘The Scent of Fish Sauce’ also competed at Korea’s Bucheon Fantastic Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival in 2015.

The other Vietnamese short to be screened internationally is ‘Em Van O Day’ by Nguyen My Trang.

It has been chosen to compete at three online festivals including Direct Monthly Online Film Festival (DMOFF), Women’s Only Entertainment Film Festival (WOEFF) and Los Angeles CineFest.

The ballet-themed film is expected to be broadcast on YouTube on June 16, and tells the story of Dan, a talented ballet dancer, and Huy, a photographer.

Dan is played by 22-year-old Hai Anh, who won the first season of the Vietnamese version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ in 2015.
