A contest launched to find the best national costume for the future Miss Vietnam at Miss Universe 2016 is seeking a winning design that highlights the true spirit and culture of the Southeast Asian country.
The winning design is set to be the official national costume for the Vietnamese beauty.
This year’s contest, the first of its type seeking to crowdsource Miss Universe Vietnam’s national costume, is organized by SG Unicorp, the media group that holds the copyright to Miss Universe Vietnam.
National costumes play an important role at international pageants, reflecting not only the beauty of the contestant but also the spirit and culture of the country.
The organizer will choose the ten best designs to enter round two, where contestants will present their ideas to judges.
The two designs that best represent Vietnam’s impressive and unique image and culture will be selected for a final round before being publicized.
Beside a cash prize worth VND15 million (US$672), the winner’s work will become the official national costume to be worn by the Vietnamese representative at Miss Universe 2016, which will likely be hosted by the Philippines.
Applicants are required to submit their entries directly or by post to SG Unicorp at 600 Dien Bien Phu Street, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City by 5:00pm on August 20.
Previous costumes were created by local fashion designers, including Thuan Viet and Dinh Anh Tho.
