The Vietnam Book of Records (Vietkings) has recognized a little girl as the country’s youngest songstress.

At the age of six, Tu Thanh has mastered the ability to sing numerous types of Vietnamese folk music including ‘hat xam’ (northern street folk music), ‘ca tru’ (northern ceremonial singing), and ‘cheo’ (northern traditional music).

Thanh was recognized as the ‘Youngest Folk Music Singer’ on Thursday.

The girl was born to a family where no one follows a career in fine arts.

However, Thanh showed her profound passion for traditional music at a very young age.

She practices singing by watching online videos and learning from professional artists.

Her family then helped her sign up for a local reality TV show, where her talent strongly impressed both the judges and audience.

Thanh said she fell in love with traditional music after watching a performance by Ha Thi Cau, a Vietnamese artist who was considered the last living treasure of ‘xam,’ the northern region’s folk music.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Thanh’s mother said the family supports her in following this typical kind of music.

“But we want her to study first, and we will help her develop her passion later,” she emphasized.
