Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 19:03 GMT+7

The German-style Christmas Market will be held in Hanoi for the first time ever this week, the German Embassy in Hanoi announced on Monday.

The market, from December 14 to 16, promises to deliver visitors the holiday spirit and a place to escape the city, relax, enjoy Christmas scents, sample typical Christmas Market treats, beverages, and hand-made crafts.

As is customary in Germany, the Christmas Market will be located near a beautiful church, Hanoi’s Cua Bac Church.

With its clock tower and picturesque windows, the church in Ba Dinh District will provide the perfect festive backdrop for the Christmas Market, whose sights, sounds and smells will engage visitors full range of senses.

The shopping event will also feature a Christmas Concert at 6pm on the opening day, with performances by the Suc Song Moi Bambus Ensemble, who will play classical music and international Christmas favorites to sing along to.

In addition, to mark the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut’s presence in Vietnam, the Goethe-Institut Hanoi will hold a special Christmas concert at the church at 8pm on December 21.

It will mark the first Christmas concert in the history of the Cua Bac Church, the embassy said.

The concert will be joined by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and will feature Mozart’s “Coronation Mass” as well as Bach’s “Orchestra Suite in D Major”, and the famous “Air on the G String”.

The event will also ask guests to make a charitable donation to help the poor.
