Enjoying the beauty of silence in this Hoi An teahouse

‘Reaching Out’ Teahouse, a restful oasis in the center of bustling Hoi An, rated five out of five on TripAdvisor without needing to make any noise, literally.

‘Reaching Out’ Teahouse is located at 131 Tran Phu Street in the heart of the Hoi An Ancient Town, central Vietnam.

It is the best option for those who want to leave the hustle and bustle pace of life behind, and enjoy life in a silent atmosphere.

In this teahouse, built inside a beautifully decorated traditional old house, every seat has its own design and not all tables have flower vases with the same model. In the courtyard stands a starfruit tree ready to give ‘sweet rewards’ to anyone who loves to taste the fruit.

The facility offers Vietnamese tea tasting, coffee tasting and cookie, including handmade cakes and especially green tea coconut candies.

Reaching Out aims to keep noise to a minimum. That’s why it has no music on. There are only sounds of tea pouring and whispering conversations, and occasionally a little noise from the outside.

All of the attendants here are speech and hearing impared. Exchanges are made with gestures, notes, and smiles.

Customers visitting this teahouse is impressed by the unique method of ordering.

There are small wooden blocks sticking notes such as ‘Ice’, ‘Hot Water’, ‘Cold Water’, ‘Question’, ‘Bill’, and ‘Thank You’ on each table.

It helps customers to make request or communicate with the staff.

Customers can also write down their other requests on these notes.

Besides serving cafe, tea and collection of snacks, the cafe also display handcrafted tea pots, cups, plates, saucers and accessories made by local artisans with disability.

Reaching Out has their own workshop, where people with disability create beautiful handcrafted products. The workshop not only creates job for the disabled but also helps them become integrated into the sociaety and lead a productive life. Mabe this is the explanation for the slogan of the workshop ‘Gifts that give twice’.

All of these special things is the reason why foreigners tourists left a lot of good comments and recommendations to other people about this special teahouse in Hoi An.
