Billboard Vietnam is running a contest to hunt for the first generation of Vietnamese VJs, eight months after the U.S. entertainment magazine entered the country.

Competition to hunt for Billboard first generation of VJ will officially kick-off in August 2018.

VJ (video jockey) is a person who introduces and plays music videos for a broadcast, party and other entertainments. In many cases, VJ is also considered to be the music ambassador.

The Billboard Vietnam VJ Hunt contest includes three rounds of selection - online casting, on-ground challenges and a judges’ audition, and a training course.

An online voting will be held to choose candidates for the final round, where they will participate in a six-week training course with top local and international VJs and music experts.

Throughout the training course, the contest finalists will have a chance to learn skills crucial to an international VJ, including comprehensive understanding of music, language usage, on-stage behavior and improvisation, and fashion style.

Application is open to all Vietnamese nationals aged 18 – 30 years from August 1 to 16. The final result will be announced in October.

Contestants are required to have a good understanding of music and be fluent in Vietnamese and another language of choice such as English, French, Japanese or Korean, with Billboard saying it is looking for candi

Billboard is a well-known weekly music magazine originating in the U.S. with its first issue published in 1894.

In 1990, the magazine first held Billboard Music Awards, which soon became the most prestigious annual music award in the world, with millions of people following the event every year.

The Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 are currently the world’s most acknowledged music charts.

The magazine entered Vietnam, its tenth market so far, in December 2017 and made its first public appearance at the LIGHTS 2018 New Year's Eve Countdown event in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the future, Billboard intends to start publishing music magazines and organizing music charts for both Vietnamese and international music.

Pop star My Tam is the first Vietnamese artist to make it to the Billboard, with her album Tam 9 climbing to No. 10 on the Billboard World Albums Chart in January.
