The organizers of an annual photo contest held to showcase the beauty of Vietnam and its people have announced the winners of the year-long competition after sifting through nearly 8,000 entries.

Ten works were shortlisted for the final round of the “Ve Dep Vietnam,” literally translated as “Beauty of Vietnam,” contest held by Truyen Hinh Nhan Dan (People TV), a television channel run by the eponymous newspaper.

One grand prize, a first runner-up, and three second runner-up prizes were announced on Thursday.

Ve Dep Vietnam has been held annually by Nhan Dan TV since 2016.

This year, nearly 8,000 entries were submitted by over 100 photographers relating to each of the monthly topics assigned to the last 11 months.

For each topic, the jury selected ten photos in a preliminary round before handpicking the second and first runners-up, and the winner for the final round.

While there were 11 monthly topics, only ten photos made it to the final round.

The contest’s awards ceremony took place in Hanoi on Thursday afternoon.

A speed photography competition, called “Flash Moment” using the theme “Hanoi in One Day” was organized from 12:00 pm December 19 to 12:00 pm December 20 as a complement to the final gala.
