Vietnam’s famous designer Vo Viet Chung is slated to showcase a new collection of ao dai, Vietnamese traditional long gowns, at a festival in Canada later this month.

The 45-year-old designer will bring his collection Xuan Thi, literally meaning 'Youth,' consisting of 15 ao dai designs, to the Aodai Canada 2019, which will take place in the east-central Canadian province of Ontario from July 13 to 19.

The festival is organized by Aodai Canada, a non-profit organization, to introduce traditional Vietnamese culture, including cuisine and fashion, to an array of international guests, in addition to raising funds to help disadvantaged families and victims of human trafficking.

Chung revealed that he only started putting together the collection after accepting the invitation to join the festival in Canada.

The designer said each item in his Xuan Thi collection is designed in bright and elegant colors, featuring flower buds.

“The collection name, which means youth, indicates my wish to introduce the beauty of young Vietnamese girls,” Chung said.

Miss Vietnam Beauty International Quynh Thy, the lead model of the collection, will accompany Chung to Canada to present the designs on the runway.

Chung started his design career in the fashion industry in the early 1990s, and founded the Vo Viet Chung brand in 1994.

He is known for his unique choice of materials and for successfully promoting ao dai and Vietnamese silk worldwide.

In 2007, he was honored by the UNESCO for his restoration and use of Lanh My A, a rare and luxurious type of Vietnamese silk.
