PM Dung to pay 4-day visit to Japan

Monday, December 09, 2013, 15:51 GMT+7

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will visit Japan from December 12-15, during which he will attend the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit and the fifth Mekong-Japan Summit.  The visit will be made at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who will have talks with his Vietnamese counterpart during the latter’s stay in Japan. PM Dung’s visit will take place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations.  During the visit, Dung will have talks with Japan’s leading companies as well as meetings with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JACA) and the Japan International Cooperation Bank.  After establishing diplomatic ties on September 21, 1973, Vietnam and Japan opened their embassies in each other’s country in 1975. Vietnam also opened its General Consulate in Osaka and Fukuoka, while Japan opened its General Consulate in HCM City. Bilateral relations between the two countries have developed vigorously in various fields, including politics, economics, culture and education. In April 2009, during a Japan visit by the then Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Vietnam and Japan agreed to lift their relations to the strategic partnership. Meanwhile, after taking office in January 2013, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe selected Vietnam as the first venue for his overseas trip.
