Vietnam’s Party leader visits southern Chinese province, urging more cooperation

Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited Yunnan Province in southern China that borders Vietnam on Thursday, calling for further cooperation between the Chinese province and Vietnamese localities.

>> Vietnam, China committed to practical, healthy, sustainable ties The Yunnan stopover was part of General Secretary Trong’s visit to China starting on Tuesday, according to the Vietnam News Agency. Yunnan Party Committee Secretary Li Ji Heng and other provincial officials received General Secretary Trong upon his arrival in the provincial capital city of Kunming. During their meeting, the Vietnamese leader congratulated Yunnan on its achievements in socio-economic development, and expressed his belief that the Chinese province will develop further thanks to its untapped potential and favorable conditions.

He also said he wished for closer cooperation between Yunnan and Vietnamese localities, especially those sharing the common border.  Meanwhile, Secretary Li highly valued the outcomes of the Vietnamese Party leader’s China visit, such as the signing of a number of cooperation documents and the agreement on various important perceptions to create new momentum for the bilateral relation between the two countries.

The host assured his guest that Yunnan will follow mutually agreed perceptions in order to further promote the friendship and cooperation between the two nations in general and between the province and Vietnamese localities in particular.

Yunnan always treasures its ties with Vietnam and wishes to strengthen its relations with Vietnamese localities, Secretary Li said.

During his stay in Kunming, General Secretary Trong also met the staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the city. He asked the Consulate General to do more to bridge Vietnamese localities and Yunnan, which borders Vietnam’s Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, and Dien Bien Provinces. The Party chief also visited the Kunming Urban Planning Museum. Earlier, he met with executives from Chinese companies investing in Vietnam in Beijing, including Huawei Technologies Group and Zhongxing Telecommunications Corporation.
