Vietnam, China’s supreme courts establish judicial cooperation

Thursday, November 12, 2015, 18:04 GMT+7

Vice President of the Supreme People’s Court of China He Rong and Permanent Deputy Chief Judge of the Vietnam Supreme People’s Court Bui Ngoc Hoa signed a memorandum of understanding on judicial cooperation during their talks in Hanoi on Wednesday.

The talks were part of the four-day visit to Vietnam, which began on November 9, of a senior delegation led by He, intended to cement the Vietnam-China ties when it comes to judicial affairs.

During their meeting, Permanent Deputy Chief Justice Hoa introduced several new points added to the Vietnamese court system after the new law on the organization of people’s courts was adopted by the lawmaking National Assembly in 2014.

The Vietnamese judge also delivered to his guests a presentation on several projects that are being studied and put into practice by the Vietnam Supreme People’s Court to facilitate its judicial reforms, including the establishment and development of judicial precedents, the improvement of litigation, and the application of technology to court-related activities.

China considers that the judicial reforms of the two countries share several similarities and it could learn from Vietnam’s knowledge and experience regarding the executive as well as from those of other countries in the region, according to Vice President He.

The two court officials agreed that Vietnam and China will enhance their cooperation in jurisdiction as well as other fields.

Leaders from the two countries’ Supreme People’s Courts have conducted many state visits and talks before the meeting to discuss problems related to the field, Permanent Deputy Chief Judge Hoa said.

Representatives of the Vietnam Supreme People’s Court are directed to attend forums and conferences organized annually by the Chinese counterpart in order to propose solutions to disputes in association with commerce in border areas, and to establish a free trade area, he added.
