Twenty-one positions, including three deputy prime ministers, were voted in for a five-year term on Saturday, the last working day for Vietnam’s legislature to finish its personnel selection for the new government.

The new 27-member government is led by newly elected Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, consisting of five heads of ministries who keep their posts and 21 officials appointed on Saturday morning.

According to the 2013 Constitution of Vietnam, the prime minister has the right to nominate government positions to the lawmaking National Assembly. The premier can only sign directives for the new officials to take office once the nominees are approved by the house.

Vietnam’s legislative body on Saturday approved the nominations by Prime Minister Phuc to select three new deputy prime ministers, Vuong Dinh Hue, Truong Hoa Binh and Trinh Dinh Dung.

Hue, head of the Central Economic Committee, and Binh, former chief judge of the Supreme People’s Court, both won an 89.47 percent approval vote to become the deputy premier.

Dung, who previously led the ministry of construction, was appointed with a voting rate of 81.78 percent.

The remaining appointed positions include 14 heads of ministries and the Minister-Chairman of the Government's Committee for Ethnic Affairs, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office, the Government Inspector General, and Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam.

The 14 ministries include defense; public security; home affairs; justice; planning and investment; industry and trade; transport; construction; natural resources and environment; information and communications; labor, war invalids and social affairs; culture, sports and tourism; science and technology; and education and training.

Those government officials who keep their posts are Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh; Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam; Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung; Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat; and Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien.

The oldest government members are Prime Minister Phuc and newly appointed Minister of Defense Ngo Xuan Lich, who are both 62, and the youngest is 46-year-old Le Minh Hung, the new head of the central bank.

As of Saturday morning, Vietnam has completed filling all positions for the new government.

The three top positions include National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the new head of state, President Tran Dai Quang, and premier Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Other important posts such as deputy state president, chief judge of the Supreme People’s Court, and head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy were also named on Friday.
