Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane have discussed practical measures to foster the cooperative relationship between the two localities.
Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang convened a meeting with Governor of Vientiane Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune on Monday evening, within the framework of the latter’s visit to Vietnam.
During the conversation, the two leaders stressed the importance of boosting cooperation and investment between the two cities.
According to Secretary Thang, the two localities need to review the results of their previous ties in a careful manner to point out the existing issues and deepen the collaboration.
The cooperation must be centered on the strengths of each party and be at the same level with the political rapport between the two cities and two nations in general.
Replying to his host, Governor Khoutphaythoune expressed his hope that the Lao capital could learn from Ho Chi Minh City’s experience in several matters regarding finance, tariffs, and customs.
The Laotian official asked the Vietnamese metropolis to provide favorable conditions for Vientiane beef to be sold and consumed in the local market.
During his trip, Khoutphaythoune and his delegation of high-ranking officials also awarded the First Class Medal to Ho Chi Minh City for its contribution to the development of the Lao capital.
Earlier the same day, Governor Khoutphaythoune met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi.
