President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman has discussed measures to boost the two nations’ relationship with his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang as part of the former’s state visit to Hanoi.

The two heads of state sat down for a talk in the Vietnamese capital on Wednesday morning, within the framework of President Zeman’s visit from June 6 to 8, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

During the conversation, President Quang shared his belief that the state visit will contribute to the enhancement of friendship and multi-faceted collaboration between the two countries.

Vietnam always attaches importance to consolidating and developing relations with its partners, including the Czech Republic, he continued.

Replying to his host, President Zeman praised the achievements that Vietnam has attained in its reform efforts as well as the country’s increasing role and position in the international arena.

The Czech Republic regards Vietnam as its traditional partner and wishes to advance bilateral ties across multiple fields, the visiting leader said.

The two presidents expressed their delight at the positive developments of the Vietnam-Czech Republic relationship, particularly in politics and diplomacy, as well as their effective collaboration at international forums.

Bilateral economic and trade ties between the two countries have remained stable with an average annual turnover of US$250 million in recent years.

The visit of President Zeman is also significant to the strengthening of the two countries’ cooperation in economic matters, trade, investment, education and training, and labor export.

Regarding the situation in the East Vietnam Sea, the two leaders emphasized the importance of settling disputes via peaceful measures, including diplomatic and legal processes in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of cooperation documents, including an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons and another on combating criminal activity.
