Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has met with his Laotian and Cambodian counterparts to discuss their bilateral relationships, on the sidelines of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit in Siem Reap.

On the occasion of his attendance at the MRC Summit, scheduled for Thursday, PM Phuc joined talks with the premiers of Laos and Cambodia on Wednesday to discuss tightening their cooperative efforts.

During his meeting with Laotian PM Thongloun Sisoulith, the two heads of government agreed to improve bilateral and multilateral mechanisms to promote the effective and sustainable use and management of Mekong River water resources, thus ensuring the interests of each nation along the river and the sustainable development of the region.

PM Phuc asked his Laotian counterpart to provide favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in Laos and direct the implementation of the two nations’ labor cooperation agreement.

Talking with Cambodian PM Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Vietnamese premier stated that Cambodia’s hosting of the MRC Summit would help raise the country’s status in the region.

Vietnam wants to continue improving its friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, PM Phuc continued.

The two leaders consented to maintain the exchange of high-level visits and coordination in the organization of the 16th meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural and Scientific-Technological Cooperation in Hanoi from May 16 to 18.

They also exchanged views on border issues and the Vietnamese community in Cambodia.
