Vietnam has always treasured its relationship with Japan, State President Tran Dai Quang remarked during a meeting with the Japanese Emperor and Empress in Tokyo on Wednesday.
The Vietnamese leader joined talks with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko following an official welcome ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, as part of his state visit to the East Asian nation from May 29 to June 2.
During the conversation, President Quang shared his belief that the trip will begin a new phase of development for diplomatic ties between the two countries, creating practical benefits for both peoples and contributing to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development.
The Vietnamese government and people attach a significant level of importance to the relationship with Japan, he asserted.
Replying to their guest, the Japanese Emperor and Empress stressed that they also treasure their country’s friendship and cooperation with Vietnam and will do their utmost to further strengthen diplomatic ties.
Cultural and people-to-people exchanges are very important for the development of bilateral ties, as well as a mutual trust and understanding, especially as 2018 marks the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship, the royal couple stated.

President Quang also attended a dialogue in the afternoon that same day with leaders from several large Japanese corporations.
Vietnam is striving to maintain annual GDP growth of 6.5 to seven percent during the 2016-20 period, boost macro-economic stability, and promote sustainable development and environmental protection, he said during the gathering.
The moves will help Vietnam to maintain its role as a dynamic nation and an attractive destination for investment in Southeast Asia.
Foreign investments, including those made by Japanese businesses, are an important driving force behind Vietnam’s socio-economic development, the Vietnamese head of state underlined.
Quang also met with Chuichi Date, Speaker of House of Councilors of the Japanese National Diet, on Wednesday.
