Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to visit Vietnam during a recent meeting with Japanese royal family members in Tokyo.

PM Chinh and other leaders of ASEAN member states met with Japanese Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, Crown Prince Akishino, and Crown Princess Kiko in the Japanese capital on Monday.

The event was part of PM Chinh’s trip to Japan for a Commemorative Summit for the 50th year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, held from December 16 and 18 in Tokyo.

During a private meeting with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, PM Chinh, on behalf of the Vietnamese government and people, expressed his honor to meet with the Japanese royal family members in a year marking the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties and the Japan-ASEAN relations.

He extended the courteous greetings from high-ranking Vietnamese officials to Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.

PM Chinh thanked Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and other Japanese royal family members for their support for the Vietnamese people and the Vietnam-Japan friendship and partnership.

According to PM Chinh, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Japan has made significant progress over the last five decades, marked by increasingly pragmatic and effective cooperation.

The Vietnamese government leader proposed that the Japanese emperor and empress actively support the advancement of both Vietnam-Japan and Japan-ASEAN relations, fostering continued growth, peace, and prosperity for each nation within the region and contributing to the well-being of the entire region.

The emperor and empress expressed their pleasure in welcoming Vietnamese leaders on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.

They also thanked the state and people of Vietnam for their courteous and warm welcome to Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko during their official visit to the Southeast Asian nation in September.

The emperor and empress said the past exchanges, as well as cultural similarities, are among the key factors which will help bolster the Vietnam-Japan comprehensive strategic partnership in the years to come.

They expressed their shared belief that enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries would lead to increased frequency and contribute significantly to fostering mutual understanding between their nations.

The meeting was among the last activities during PM Chinh’s trip to Japan.

He and his entourage left Tokyo on Monday evening, successfully concluding their visit to Japan.
