Tuoitrenews briefs some of the leading stories published today, September 3, on Tuoi Tre Newspaper: Politics -- Ho Chi Minh City yesterday held a ceremony to mark the 67th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2). Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan reviewed the country’s glorious history during the struggle for independence as well as the cause of national protection and construction. The victory of the August Revolution has demonstrated President Ho Chi Minh’s saying: “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” and the Vietnamese people’s great strength under the leadership of the Communist Party and President Ho Chi Minh had put an end to the feudal colonial regime, opening the way for the country to advance along the direction of people’s democratic revolution and socialism, he said.Society - An explosive was thrown into the house of a police officer in Phuoc Tin Commune, Binh Phuoc Province, causing a loud explosion, but no casualties were reported. The local police are investigating to track down the culprit of the explosion. - The People’s Committee of Hoi An Town in Quang Nam Province yesterday released 10 endangered turtles with scientific name Eretmochelys imbricata to their natural habitat off  the Cham Island. Local authorities had recovered these animals from many poachers in the province.

- Many provinces in the Mekong Deta region have increased their own health service fees from September 1, the Health Ministry said. Many patients who met Tuoi Tre at several hospitals said they were worrying about the new higher fees that are unaffordable to them. Meanwhile, 15 centrally run hospitals are preparing to increased health fees, the ministry said.

- Quarantine officers and traffic police officers in HCMC’s Thu Duc District yesterday caught a truck carrying 1,400 pigs and 800 kg of suckling pigs without quarantine certificates or documents that prove their origin. All these items have been handed over to Binh Duong Province Veterinary Department for settlement

- Two new roads, Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, will be build underneath the Thi Nghe Bridge in District 1 and Dien Bien Phu Bridge in District 3 in HCMC respectively, the Urban Traffic management Board No. 1 said. Works on the roads will start late this year with an estimated investment of about VND100 billion (US$4.8 million).Business -- In face of financial pressures, many real estate companies in HCMC and Hanoi have reduced the selling prices of apartments from VND25-25 million per square meter by 20-30 percent to boost sales so that they can have a capital return soon and repay bank loans. - The number of orders placed by foreign companies for Vietnamese textile and garments in the last quarter of this year has declined by 5-7 percent from a year earlier, said the Vietnam Textiles and Garment Association (Vitas). Most of the Vietnamese exporters that suffer the decline are small- and medium-seized enterprises.

-- Well-known Vietnamesefashion designer Minh Hanh will attend the international garment and textile festival of the “Les Métamorphoses” exhibition at French museum of Bargoin from September 12 to 16. Minh Hanh will introduce 50 special brocade-made designs to the festival. The cloth used in this collection is manually made by H’Mong ethnic minority people in Ha Giang and Bac Ha Provinces.Sports -- In round 5 of the 2012 Chess Olympiad that is taking place in Turkey, the Vietnamese women’s chess team, including Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Le Kieu Thien Kim, Pham Bich Ngoc and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, defeated their US rivals 3-1 on September 1. With this success, the team ranks 16th among the 127 women’s chess teams at the event.
