Society:

-- A 300kg whale was found washed ashore in Loc Ha district in the central province of Ha Tinh on Tuesday. It was buried the same day.

-- A recent report by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs shows there are 2,149,110 poor families out of 22,375,863 households in Vietnam.

-- Several areas in the north and the south of Vietnam have experienced extremely hot weather with the average temperature ranging from 36 to 39 Celsius Degrees, according to the national weather forecaster.

-- Police in Phu Loc district in the central province of Thua Thien Hue have filed charges against local man Nguyen Khang, 34, for disguising as a traffic cop in plain clothes to fine traffic violators for money.

-- The Red Cross of Binh Dinh and an NGO have donated 400 wheel-chairs to handicapped people and Agent Orange victims and others in the province.

-- A large number of made-in-China toys offered for sale in China town in Vietnam have been found to contain toxic substances.

-- A rescue team involving mahouts and tamed elephants on Tuesday successfully caught a wounded wild elephant whose trunk was caught in a snare several days ago

Business:

-- The State Bank of Vietnam and the World Bank in Vietnam on Tuesday signed three credit agreements, worth a total of US$ 400 million, to help Vietnam with economic management reforms for higher productivity and competitiveness.

-- The Japanese Embassy has just announced that the Japanese government will grant ODA for 12 technology projects in Vietnam.

Politics:

-- The National Assembly Standing Committee convened its 18th session on Tuesday in Hanoi under the chair of NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held talks with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow on Tuesday while on an official trip to Russia. According to the Vietnamese News Agency, PM Medvedev appreciated Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over the past time, saying that they have contributed to enhancing Vietnam’s position in the region and the world.

-- Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other members of the Hanoi National Assembly deputy delegation met with voters in Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho districts on Tuesday.

Sports: 

-- Wigan were relegated from the Premier League as Arsenal defeated them 4-1 on Tuesday. So, Arsenal could seize control of the race to finish in the top four.
