After three days of searching, rescuers Sunday found the bodies of three adults and one child inside a car that was swept away by floodwaters cascading over a local dam spillway in the central province of Nghe An.
The vehicle was discovered at 6am on Sept. 22 at a distance 400 meters away from Khe Ang dam spillway in Nghia Dan district’s Nghia Hong commune where the mishap occurred.
The deceased victims are Nguyen Thi Nham, 60, Phan Thi Duong, 45, Tran Thi Nga, 37, and Nga’s daughter Vo Thuy Linh, 11. Nine-year-old Vo Ba Hai, Nga’s son, still remains missing.
The victims have been brought home for funeral. The rescuers are still searching for Hai.
Previously, on Sept. 19, five people went missing after a car carrying 7 was swept away by swollen floodwaters that were strongly rushing over the Khe Ang dam spillway.
Initial investigation found that at the time of the accident, driver Truong Van Thai and a person sitting next to him kicked at the car doors to escape and swam away while five others were stuck inside.
Thai, who works for the provincial Department of Transport, has been detained for investigation.
