Politics:

-- Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Tong Thi Phong and the second Vice President of the Senate of Cambodia Tep Ngorn have meet to express their hope for stronger cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries in preparation for the 34th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-34) in the Brunei capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan.  

-- The Party and State will do all they can to help writers and artists harness their creativity to the fullest, said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when holding a recent working session with the Party organization of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations (VULA) in Hanoi.

-- Argentinean Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman has described the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – Argentina diplomatic ties as an ideal occasion to reaffirm their commitment to bolstering friendship and cooperation.

Society:

-- Under the draft law on Social Insurance, husbands who pay social insurance premiums will take paternity leave starting 2015. Specifically, the husband will have 5 days off work during the first 30 days his wife takes off from work following the birth of her baby.

-- A series of activities have been held in Hanoi to mark World Rhino Day, including a meeting in which five members of a Vietnamese delegation sharing their observations of the impacts the illegal rhino horn trade is having on the species in South Africa, following a 10-day trip to the country's Kruger National Park.

-- A national ceremony. themed “Our place … our planet… our responsibility” , has been held in Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong to respond to the “Clean up the World” Campaign, a three-day worldwide event aims to raise public awareness of and responsibility for environmental protection and encourage people to take part in community activities.

-- After three days of searching, rescuers Sunday found the bodies of three adults and one child inside a car that was swept away by floodwaters cascading over a local dam spillway in the central province of Nghe An.

-- A Canadian, in his 50s, has been cleaning up a beach along Pham Van Dong Street in the Nha Trang beachside city by collecting trash dumped on the beach like plastic bags or straws, bottles, canvas and puts them into a big plastic bag that he later throws into a garbage bin nearby for 1.5 months now.

-- A small village in the central province of Quang Tri is dubbed “a village of risk takers” because most of the villagers earn their livelihood by searching for unexploded ordnance or UXOs that the Vietnam War left behind.

Business:

-- After Samsung’s announcement that the company will increase its investment in two plants in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces to US$4.5 billion, LG electronics, another major Korean group, has declared a new project worth $1.5 billion in Hai Phong.

-- The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has decided to cancel anti-subsidy measures against companies exporting frozen shrimp from Vietnam after a recent vote taken by the USITC’s six-member committee, of which four members voicing their support for the cancellation.

Lifestyle:

-- The 2014 Hue Festival, themed “Cultural heritage with integration and development”, will be held from April 12-20 with the participation of art troupes from 25 countries and territories worldwide and France would be the main partner, according to the Festival Organizing Committee.

-- An exhibition of royal documents bearing the handwritten comments and signatures of the 10 Kings under the Nguyen Dynasty has been opened in the former imperial city of Hue. There are more than 150 documents, which were drafted by administrative agencies from local to central levels, and then submitted to the Kings for considering and approving, on display.
