Police and other relevant agencies in Ho Chi Minh City should take tougher actions to suppress criminal offenses, especially organized crimes, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. The deputy PM made the call at a conference held on Sunday in Ho Chi Minh City to review criminal activities that has taken place in the past 11 months and discuss measures to drive back crimes and improve safety for people. After hearing reports from the city police that say crimes are on the rise in the city, especially children kidnapping, rape and murder, Phuc said, “Police should have stronger blows against criminals, especially organized criminal gangs and underground gangs to ensure security for every resident.” He emphasized that any police units must not neglect their duties.

Any police officers who are found unqualified in fighting crimes must be transferred and those found lending a hand to criminals must be punished and removed, Phuc said. He also emphasized the coordination between police and other local agencies as well as between city police and their counterparts in neighboring provinces and cities to make the fight against crimes more effective and efficient.  In reply to the deputy PM, HCMC People’s Committee chairman Le Hoang Quan said he will order police and relevant agencies to work out and apply synchronous solutions to boost crime combat and maintain social order and security.Children kidnapping rises 200% According to reports released at the conference, 6,218 criminal cases occurred in the past 11 months, up about 5 percent from the same period last year, leaving 133 people dead and 758 others injured and causing a total damage of about VND90 billion (US$4.25 million).
