Politics -- At her reception held on Friday for the outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Hoang Vinh Thanh, Governor-General of Australia Quentin Bryce said she is delighted at the strong development of comprehensive relations between Vietnam and her country over the last 40 years. According to statistics, two-way trade between Vietnam and Australia increased to AU$6 billion in 2013 from AU$3.3 billion in 2009.
Society -- Southern Tay Ninh Province Veterinary Sub-department is considering declaring an epidemic of the H5N1 avian flu in a number of localities of the province, where more than 2,000 ducks have been culled after they were found infected with the H5N1 virus. Meanwhile, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization on Friday warned that the H7N9 avian flu that is raging in China can spread to its neighboring countries. -- Along with Hanoi and Lao Cai, Son La and Yen Bai provinces, Ho Chi Minh City is also being affected by measles, with more than 100 children hospitalized for the disease from early this year, local health authorities reported.
