-- The Vietnam Coast Guard will keep patient to peacefully drive oil rig Haiyang 981 and its escort vessels out of Vietnamese waters on a long-term basis, Commander Nguyen Quang Dam said Wednesday during an online talk with Vietnamese people. China has illegally stationed the drilling platform in Vietnamese waters since May 1.

-- China dispatched Wednesday two landing crafts equipped with surface-to-air missile launchers to guard oil rig Haiyang 981 illicitly planted in Vietnamese waters since May 1.

-- About 200 to 300 people cross the border in the southern Vietnamese province of Binh Phuoc to Cambodia to gamble every day, local police have said.

-- Many Vietnamese people have asked to join the Vietnam Fisheries Surveillance Force during the past few days given current tensions in the East Vietnam Sea, fisheries surveillance officials said Wednesday.

-- Authorities in the southern province of Binh Duong will leave no stone unturned to protect foreign investors and their assets, Tran Van Nam, deputy chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday.
