Politics -- The 10-year implementation of the Vietnam-China Agreement on Fishery Cooperation in the Tonkin Gulf was reviewed at a conference held in the central coastal city of Da Nang on Friday. At the event, representatives of the fishermen proposed Vietnamese surveillance forces strengthen their presence at the areas near the demarcation line in the Gulf of Tonkin in order to timely assist Vietnamese fishermen when any problems arise. According to a report delivered at the event, Vietnamese and Chinese agencies in charge of the enforcement of the agreement have coordinated in maintaining fishery activities as well as security and order at sea.Society -- Over the past ten years, the Vietnam Coast Guard has expelled 7,781 Chinese ships that were caught illegally fishing in Vietnamese waters, according to report delivered at a conference held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the central city of Da Nang on Friday. During the same period, the Vietnamese border guard forces have also driven away about 1,800 Chinese vessels that committed the same violation. -- Vietnamese Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien on Friday said she has requested that Chinese competent agencies provide the Vietnamese health authorities a list of chemicals used by Chinese farmers and traders as preservatives for fruits and farm produce, as well as the testing methods needed for such substances. The request came following a warning from the Vietnamese National Institute for Food Control that many unknown preservatives contained in Chinese fruits exported to Vietnam can be very harmful to consumer health.  -- The Quang Nam Province Obstetrics Hospital in central Vietnam yesterday said its doctors successfully delivered a baby weighing as much as 6.5 kg  by Cesarean section on Wednesday. This is the highest weight of a baby that doctors at the hospital have delivered so far. The baby’s mother weighed 102 kg. Both the mother and baby are in good health condition and will be discharged from the hospital on Sunday. --  Police from the Ministry of Public Security on Friday executed a search warrant at the head office of the VN Pharma, a pharmaceutical joint stock company, located on Ba Thang Hai Street, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, to collect documents related to alleged smuggling by Nguyen Manh Hung,  the chairman and CEO of the company. -- The Ministry of Public of Security’s investigation agency has proposed that the Supreme People’s Procuracy prosecuted Nguyen Thanh Chon, a 55-year-old man resident in Ho Chi Minh Coty, for falsely claiming to possess treasures worth as much as US$900 billion as a bait to cheat others off money. Chon has been found appropriating at least VND4.65 billion ($219,500) from his victims. 

Business -- Vinamilk and Vingroup have been listed among the top 100 leading ASEAN businesses in 2014 by Standards & Poor’s, an independent credit rating organization. Vinamilk is praised for having leading trademarks on the market and having operated profitably during the past five years. Meanwhile, Vingroup is highly appreciated for getting a high confidence level and gaining a firm foothold on the real estate market in Vietnam.  -- The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance on Friday requested that the country’s leading traders of gasoline and oil to keep unchanged the selling prices of petrol while cutting the prices of oil by VND150-250 (US$0.007-0.0) per liters.Sports -- Athletes of the Vietnamese Olympic team will compete with their competitors in seven sporting subjects on Saturday, the first day of the 17th Asian Games that opened in  South Korea on Friday evening. Among these subjects are shooting, weightlifting, and Wushu.
