Dai Nam Tourist Park to be closed over 'bully' claims

Dai Nam Tourist Park to be closed over 'bully' claims

Wednesday, November 05, 2014, 16:42 GMT+7

Dai Nam Tourist Park in the southern province of Binh Duong announced that it will be closed from next week until December 31, 2014. Authorities denied that the closure is due to difficulties caused by local government.  However, from November 4 to 9, the park will give free admission to visitors and free entry tickets into its beach and zoo areas. Besides, 100% and 50% discount will be offered for games, according to announcement on the park’s website. The park is located in Hiep An Ward of the province’s Thu Dau Mot Town. On Tuesday, the provincial authorities provided the media with information related to the park’s operations as well as the statements by its owner, Huynh Uy Dung. Tran Van Nam, standing deputy chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, rejected Dung’s statements on some newspapers that he decided to close the park due to difficulties caused by concerned agencies. This statement by Dung is not correct, causing misunderstanding among the public. “Currently, concerned agencies including the provincial People’s Committee and the tax authorities are carrying out some procedures only to handle law infringements at the Song Than 3 Industrial Park under the direction of the Prime Minister, and such procedures are not related to the Dai Nam Tourist Park at all,” Nam said. The official emphasized that “it is wrong for Dung to say that he decides to close the park due to being bullied by provincial authorities.” Telling the media about Dung’s claim that his company was “bullied” by local agencies including tax authorities, Le Van Trang, head of the provincial Tax Department, said that Dung misunderstood the department’s activities related to his company – Dai Nam Joint Stock Company. So far this year, the tax department has inspected the company but this is only a regular inspection with limited contents, and the department has issued a conclusion of the inspection in July, Trang said. Nguyen Van Sang, director of the tourist service center under Dai Nam Joint Stock Company, told Tuoi Tre that Dung ordered the closure, citing difficulties but provided no further details.Tuoi Tre reporters tried to contact Dung on the phone but failed.

As Vietnam’s top man-made tourism spot, Dai Nam Tourist Park is an entertainment complex locatd in Hiep An Ward, Thu Dau Mot Town, the southern province of Binh Duong, on National Highway 13.

The park, which is about 2-hour-driving from the center of Ho Chi Minh City, was officially put into operation in late 2008.
