-- On April 16, President Truong Tan Sang attended a ceremony of the Army Officer School I to receive the Third Ho Chi Minh Order and celebrate its 70th anniversary in Hanoi. At the event, the Vietnamese president asked the school to focus on training its high quality forces, especially to meet the requirement of hi-tech warfare.

-- Police in the Central Highlands city of Da Lat on Wednesday arrested a group of racers who organized a race on the runway of the local military airport Cam Ly. Three of six suspects involved in the incident were then captured.

-- On Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said they are probing a captain and a flight attendant of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines being arrested on April 13 by South Korean police for allegedly carrying gold without customs declaration last month. On March 10, Nguyen Van Dung and Nguyen Tan Phong were found hiding 6kg of gold in total in their shoes when their flight landed in Busan after departing from Hanoi.

-- Ho Chi Minh City Police on Wednesday announced that they have busted a prostitution ring of amateur models and actresses which sold sex at US$500 to $1,000 per session. La Bao Loc, 42, has been in police custody for investigation into his broker role.

-- The People’s Committee of the central province of Quang Nam has recently worked with budget carrier Jetstar Pacific Airlines on launching a new route from the Chu Lai airport in the province’s Nui Thanh District to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa. The carrier is expected to offer three flights a week using the A320 aircraft. The first flight will be launched on May 19 from Chu Lai. Earlier, the province also allowed low-cost airline VietJet Air to run the Chu Lai – Ho Chi Minh City service and vice versa, with four flights a week using the A321 plane starting on May 27.

-- According to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the U.S. has so far invested around $11.03 billion in Vietnam. American investors have focused on accommodation and food with 17 projects with the total registered capital of approximately $4.68 billion, accounting 42.3 percent of the total registered capital of the U.S. in the Southeast Asian country.

-- The annual culinary festival of the coastal city of Vung Tau in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province will be held from April 23 to 26 at the Trung Trac – Trung Nhi Park. Besides, the Ba Ria – Vung Tau 6th International Kite Festival will also be organized in several places in the province from April 22 to 27 under the “Fly with Vietnam” theme.

-- Workers of the Hanoi-based East Asia Steel JSC have recently discovered a set of 28 gongs lying deep under the ground upon exploring placer gold in Dak Mon Commune, Dak Glei District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum. The gongs have been submitted to the Dak Glei District People’s Committee.
