-- Vietnam’s State President Truong Tan Sang will attend the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Russia from May 7 to 10 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, before visiting the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan from May 10 to 13 and May 13 to 15, respectively.


-- Vietnamese salaried workers return to work today, May 4, after a six-day public holiday from April 28 to May 3, highlighted by the country’s 40th anniversary of national reunification on April 30.

-- More than 300 people were hospitalized for fighting during the national holiday running from April 28 to March 3 in Ho Chi Minh City, more than any other Vietnamese localities, the Ministry of Health was briefed Sunday.

-- A 42-seat passenger bus was Sunday found carrying as many as 111 people by traffic police in the northern province of Thanh Hoa as it was heading for Hanoi.

-- A 36-year-old man set his house in Da Lat, the capital city of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, on fire after a blazing quarrel with his wife on Sunday.

-- An hour-long hailstorm hit a town in the north-central province of Nghe An on Sunday, uprooting several trees and destroying the roofs of many houses. Many locals meanwhile rushed to eat the hailstones, thinking it would bring them luck.

-- A Chinese national has been indicted after being found trafficking in 3kg of drugs to the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh on April 30, the provincial border guard said Sunday.


-- More than 160,000 tourists visited a festival that honored traditional cakes in southern Vietnam and took place from April 27 to May 1 in the southern city of Can Tho.

-- More than eight million domestic tourists spent their six-day holiday ending Sunday at local attractions, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.


-- Belgian artist Marie Warnant will have a concert in Hanoi on Tuesday and another in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday.


-- Vietnam will challenge Malaysia in their second game of Group B at the 2015 AFF Women’s Championship football competition in Ho Chi Minh City today, May 4.
