-- Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who is in Japan for the seventh Mekong – Japan Summit, met with President of the Japan–Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group Toshihiro Nikai on Friday. He asked the group to prompt the Japan government to provide Vietnam with more official development assistance, encourage Japanese enterprises to operate in Vietnam, and receive more Vietnamese nurses and trainees to work in Japan.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council has requested that the city People’s Committee delay the collection of road maintenance fees, which has been slated to be carried out this month, until the council reviews all reports related to the organization of fee collection. While all other localities have set out their own fee rates and collected them since 2013, under a government decree, Ho Chi Minh City has continued to postpone its fee collection so far to spare residents any further burdens.

-- Police in the north-central province of Nghe An are investigating the cause of the deaths of four member of a family who were found dead in their hut in their mountain field in Tam Hop Commune on Thursday. The victims include a 28-year-old man, his wife and their 1-year-old daughter, and his mother.

-- Vietnam will likely continue facing a dire need of blood type A and type O in August, as the volume of blood collected in the recent blood donation drives is only enough for use in July, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has warned. The agency added that the number of people registered for blood donation in August is equal to only one-seventh of that this month.

-- Along with the initial recovery of the Vietnamese real estate market, many domestic companies are launching their apartment products for sale. For example, Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corp. and Hoang Anh Saigon Real Estate Corp. are jointly offering to sell 700 flats, with areas ranging from 42 to 72 m², for VND800 million-VND1 billion (US$36,700-45,900) per flat.       

-- Waterway traffic police in the southern province of Tien Giang on Friday seized 260,000 liters of fuel oil and diesel oil carried on the Soai Rap River by the ship Khanh Nhat 7, coded SG 2934, for investigation after the vessel’s captain failed to show documents to prove the origin of the goods.

-- The photo taken by reporter Viet Dung of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper in November 2000 showing the then U.S President Bill Clinton shaking hands with Vietnamese young people on the balcony of a house in Hanoi won the first prize in the photo contest celebrating the 20^th anniversary of the normalization of Vietnam-U.S. diplomatic relations. The prize-awarding ceremony was held in Hanoi on Friday. The contest was organized by the Vietnam-U.S. Association, the Vietnam-U.S. Magazine and the Vietnamese TV channel VTV4.    

-- Vietnam’s Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has been listed by the UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage for the second time for its impressive biological diversity and prominent ecological environment. The park is located in the central province of Quang Binh and home to the high-profile Son Doong Cave, which is the world’s largest.

-- Chile will host Argentina in the final match of the Copa America 2015 in National Stadium Julio Martinez Pranados in Santiago City at 3:00 am on Sunday (Vietnam time). The game will come live on Vietnam’s SCTV11 and BTV5 channels.
