A young man was arrested for allegedly stabbing two people to death after breaking into their house in the central province of Quang Tri on Friday, police said.

The suspect, 24-year-old Ho Chi Bao, also injured two others during his break-in at the house in Huong Hoa District, officers said later the same day.

Bao was receiving treatment for a wound on his hand, allegedly inflicted during the crime, at Huong Hoa General Hospital at about 5:00 pm when he was arrested, Colonel Tran Duc Viet, head of the provincial investigation police agency, said.

The suspect confessed to police that he attempted to break into the house to steal property, but was caught by Ho Thi Ty and her father-in-law, Nguyen Van Sat.

Ty was wife of Nguyen Hoa, the house owner and who runs a local construction material firm, whereas Sat, 93, was the father of the business man.

Upon being detected, Bao used a knife to stab both of them to death.

A domestic worker of the house was also stabbed and is now receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Ho Thi Thuan, an accountant of the firm run by Hoa, accidentally entered the house after the suspect had allegedly claimed two lives, and was chased after by the suspect.

But the woman managed to take shelter in a toilet and only suffered slight injuries.

The suspect then hurriedly searched the house and took away a lot of money and gold before leaving, he told investigators, adding that he suffered a deep wound in his hand while attacking the victims.

Local residents told police they heard loud cries for help from the house at around 3:00 pm, and decided to call police, who rushed to the scene immediately.

Quang Tri police began hunting for the suspect and got him after only two hours.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security, praised the provincial police for the quick response, whereas the province’s administration also rewarded policemen involved in the case with VND10 million (US$460) for their outstanding achievement.
