-- The Ho Chi Minh City Police Department's immigration division on Tuesday launched a public administrative website to provide support for Vietnamese citizens with permanent or long-term temporary residency in the city as well as eligible companies based in the economic hub in applying online for new regular passports or having old ones changed.

-- According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Unit, a Japanese-Vietnamese contractor consortium has started work on another bridge of the city’s first metro line that goes over Hanoi Highway, located in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. The 250-meter-long overpass bridge is one of the five bridges built along the metro line, which spans 19.7 kilometers from Ben Thanh in downtown Ho Chi Minh City to Suoi Tien Amusement Park in District 9.

-- A fisherman residing in the central province of Quang Tri on Tuesday spotted a 250-kilogram bomb that got stuck in his fishing net while he was casting it on the Se Pon River. According to a provincial unexploded ordnance removal team that pulled the bomb ashore, the explosive item, measuring 1.5 meters in length, is an MK82 bomb which U.S. troops dropped during wartime.

-- The High-Tech Crime Prevention Police Division under the Hanoi Police Department has recently transferred a case involving a 26-year-old man who had plundered dozens of millions of dong (VND1 million is equivalent to US$45.3) from several people through Google AdSense to an investigative agency for indictment.

-- The Maternal and Children Health Department under the Ministry of Health told a Tuesday press conference that a group of Vietnamese transsexuals with almost 600 members had urged that certain details on their identity records indicating their gender transformations be changed. However, the current regulations are yet to allow changes to transsexuals’ identity records, except for those with innate gender defects, the department representative said.

-- A Tuesday meeting heard the result of a report on local businesses’ satisfaction regarding the tax sector’s performance in 2014. Despite their higher levels of contentment, representatives of the businesses still voiced their frustration. Thirty-two percent of them said they usually offer tax officials money under the table.

-- Nikolay Kapustkin, deputy chief representative of the Russia Trade Office in Vietnam, told a meeting organized on Tuesday to prepare a Ho Chi Minh City business delegation for a reconnaissance trip to Russia that over the past several years, Vietnamese goods have been enthusiastically embraced by Russians. Trade between the two countries has topped $4 billion.

-- Test results from the Animal Health Agency Zone VI have confirmed an outbreak of the H5N1 avian flu virus on a flock of over 1,000 poultry owned by a farmer in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh. Eight hundred and ninety-two dead chicken and ducks of the flock tested positive for the fatal virus.

-- Sixteen Vietnamese-American youths are providing free summertime English classes at a high school in Phu Vang District, located in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. The youths, mostly students, passed a rigorous selection round in the U.S. and spent their own money on their volunteer trip to their home country.

-- On Tuesday night (Vietnam time), star swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a bronze medal in the women’s 200m individual medley category at the 2015 Fina World Cup, which is going on in Moscow, Russia.
