-- A 34-year-old man purportedly slashed four people to death and injured three others in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on Sunday, before being arrested by police later the same day.

-- Pham Thi Ngoc Chien, a pharmacist in the southern province of Binh Phuoc, has been arrested for allegedly pouring insecticide into the water well of her neighbor out of revenge over their conflict, local police said Sunday.

-- Doctors at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City announced on Sunday their operation on August 17 on a 16-month-old baby born with the heart outside of her chest was a success, with the girl recovering well and her heart relocated to the right place.

-- Vietnam spent $1.71 billion importing 64,000 automobiles in the year to July, a 152.3 percent increase in value and a 104.7 percent rise in volume compared to the same period last year, according to the latest customs data.

-- The State Bank of Vietnam has allowed DongA Bank, which was put into special supervision last week and whose CEO has been suspended for investigation, to choose a new boss on its own, instead of having an executive from the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam take over the position.
