-- Vietnam and Cambodia will strengthen joint patrols at sea, the two sides confirmed at a meeting between the 5th Regional Command of the Vietnam People’s Navy and a delegation from the naval base of the Royal Cambodian Navy on Wednesday in the southern Vietnamese province of Kien Giang. During the last years, the two sides have worked together to hold 40 joint patrols and timely handle many incidents.

-- Officials in the southern province of Long An has said its Lang Sen (Lotus Village) Wetland Conservation Area in Tan Hung District has been recognized as a new ramsar site, the seventh in Vietnam.

-- HIV infection is on the increase and its development has become more and more complicated, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health.

-- The public in Vietnam have been shocked to see a viral video in which a schoolgirl was seen using an iron tube to beat another with the help of her friends in central city of Da Nang.

-- According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the country spent US$2.3 billion importing 94,610 cars in the year to October. The number marks an 83 percent increase in quantity and a 100 percent rise in value compared with the same period last year.

-- A Vietnam-U.S. trade office was put into operation on Wednesday in the southern province of Binh Duong. Mai Hoang, head of the Vietnam-U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the U.S., said the office will help boost the cooperation between Vietnamese and American enterprises.

Education

-- The 2015 Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) with 329 delegates will visit Ho Chi Minh City from November 17 to 21 for a series of activities, including cultural exchanges. The delegates will participate in a homestay program in the city’s 14 districts. SSEAYP is one of the cooperation programs between the Japanese government and other ASEAN governments to foster friendship among young people from these countries.

-- The Australian Embassy in Vietnam has recently said 39 candidates from the Southeast Asian country have won grants from the Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships funded by Australia’s government. The recipients will study at 17 universities and colleges in Australia. Besides, five Australian citizens who have won the scholarships will also come to study in Vietnam.

-- The World Police Music Festival will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from November 14 to 15. The event has been held annually by Japan’s Mainichi Daily News since 1996 in many countries, including Japan, France, Spain, Germany, the U.S., the Netherlands, and others. This is the second time Vietnam has hosted the event, after the first time in 2011 in Hanoi.
