-- Vietnamese Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed a Cambodian delegation led by Samdech Say Chhum, vice president of the Cambodian People’s Party, in Hanoi on Wednesday.

Society

-- Typhoon Melor has changed its direction toward the southern region of Vietnam and headed to the country’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago as it weakened, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

-- Hanoi police have arrested Kim Young Yun, 41, Kim Seing Hyun, 34, and Yang Dong Kook, 53, all of whom are Korean, for appropriating property by using computers, media and Internet networks. The three suspects stole a total of VND300 million (US$13,314) between November 24 and 27.

-- Captain Nguyen Tan Tai of the SE08 train and his team succeeded in helping a female passenger deliver her baby after she went into labor in the middle of the journey on Monday.

Business

-- Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation - Samco on Wednesday delivered six Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, an eco-friendly type of bus, to its partner in the southern province of Binh Duong. The buses are part of the 300 vehicles that has Samco planned to manufacture.

-- Le Minh Quoc was voted the new chairman of Vietnam’s Export Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Eximbank) for the 2015-20 tenure during a board meeting on Wednesday.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has mobilized competent units to carry out thorough inspection to ensure food safety in the coming Lunar New Year holiday.

-- The total turnover of Vietnam’s textile exports was recorded at US$20.6 billion in November, meaning the industry has to strive for another $2.4 billion in export revenue in December to meet the goal set by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

-- Cooking lovers as well as fans in Ho Chi Minh City gathered on Wednesday at The Tre (Youth) Publishing House to attend the talk featuring U.S. Masterchef Christine Ha, on the occasion of the release of her Vietnamese-language cookbook titled “Nau an bang ca trai tim,” literally translated as “Cooking with all your heart.”   

-- Authorities in the south-central province of Quang Ngai have asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help complete a document, which will be submitted to UNSECO for approval for the acknowledgement of the Binh Chau-Ly Son volcanic area as a Global Geopark.
