Da Nang authorities green-light student’s request to install park lamps

Da Nang authorities green-light student’s request to install park lamps

The administration of the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang has taken action to install park lamps in a green venue following a student’s plea for a lighted playground.

The municipal administration said on Tuesday last week that its officials had approved a proposal by Nguyen Manh Quan, a student at Le Do Middle School in Son Tra District, to have lamps erected in a park.

“After receiving the proposal, the committee has directed relevant units to put up four such lamps at a cost of VND80 million [US$3,587],” the Son Tra People’s Committee said.

The installation began on April 9 and was slated to finish on April 15.

As Quan wished to have lights in a nearby park to play soccer with his neighbors, he submitted a letter expressing his dream to a webpage operated by the Da Nang administration.

The webpage, launched by the administration on February 19, is open to reports and complaints about any Da Nang-related social problems from both local residents and tourists.

It has a clear, user-friendly interface, listing six groups of issues, namely the environment, traffic safety, social evils, infrastructure-urban construction, beggars-street vendors, and other issues.

The Da Nang Public Service Portal is tasked with receiving complaints from citizens and forwarding them to the appropriate agencies authorized to resolve them, according to the city’s administration.

These agencies are given three days at most to respond to the complaints, but more complicated issues must be addressed to the administration.

People will be notified via the webpage when there is a reply to their feedback.

The webpage, however, does not have an English version, thus it is apparently open to Vietnamese-speaking people only.
