-- Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang convened a meeting with Laotian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Thongsavanh Phomvihane on Sunday morning, discussing the Laos-Vietnam relationship.

-- A total of 81 members of foreign embassies, consulates, international organizations, and business associations in Vietnam are expected to pay a visit to Dak Lak Province in the Central Highlands between June 8 and 11 to examine the developmental potential of the region, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

-- Three elementary school students drowned after swimming in an artificial lake in Dien Chau District in the north-central province of Nghe An on Sunday afternoon.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has imposed a VND76 million (US$3,395) fine on 15 contractors for their carelessness in renovating city streets during the last two weeks.

-- Khuat Viet Hung, vice-chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, announced on Sunday that the number of children, under 18 years old, who were killed in traffic accidents in Ho Chi Minh City has increased in the last three years.

-- A woman residing in the north-central province of Nghe An was killed while her husband was seriously injured after being attacked by a robber at their home on Saturday night, a local official affirmed on Sunday.

-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said on Sunday that it was checking the database to determine whether the roof of a house in Nghe An Province was damaged by the landing of an aircraft.

-- The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the north-central province of Quang Binh put into operation a steel hull fishing boat worth VND16 billion ($714,880) on Sunday.

-- A robot competition for children was kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday by the municipal Department of Education and Training to select the winners who will compete in an international contest in August.
