-- Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang will start a three-day official visit to Laos, at the invitation of Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachit, tomorrow, June 12.

-- A two-day event on sea security and development, co-hosted by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, concluded in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Friday, underscoring the need to form an international cooperation mechanism on marine security and safety in East Asia.

-- Samples of frozen mackerel scads taken from an establishment in the central province of Quang Tri have been found to contain excessive amount of phenol, an aromatic organic compound consired toxic to human health and is therefore banned in food preservation, local authorities said Friday.     

​-- A 26-year-old Vietnamese girl has been arrested for stealing a credit card of an Aussie man when she was invited to spend the night at his apartment in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this week, and later used it to pay a VND415 million (US$18,527) bill at a local bar.

-- A trailer truck loaded with six cars was traveling from the central province of Quang Nam to Hanoi on Friday when it burst into flame, destroying half of the luxury sedans it carried.

-- Four were killed in a fire early Friday at an infrared cooker shop in Ho Chi Minh City, raising concerns on fire safety in multi-story houses that has only one single door like the destroyed facility.
