-- Two sisters, an eight-year-old and a five-year-old, in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Ngai drowned while bathing in a local stream on Wednesday.

-- Two officials in Xuan Truong District, located in the northern province of Nam Dinh, were arrested after being caught red handed gambling, Pham Dinh Nghi, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, affirmed on Wednesday.

-- Police in the northern province of Lao Cai have issued an official warning of local children being kidnapped for their organs in the border area with China. Sixteen such cases were recorded in the area in the first six months of 2016, officials said.

-- A 28-year-old man in Hanoi, who has been paralyzed for 13 years, has requested that his head be transplanted into a healthy body when head transplant techniques are available in Vietnam.

-- Four people in a family, including a 22-year-old woman, her two young daughters, and her niece, in Lao Cai Province were allegedly murdered on Tuesday night, Colonel Dinh Tien Quan, director of the provincial Department of Police, said on Wednesday.

-- Do Dinh Hong, director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, affirmed on Wednesday that local authorities had decided to lift the ‘curfew,’ which previously forbade tourist services and businesses in the city to operate after midnight.

-- Police in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on Wednesday raided a facility that produced hundreds of metric tons of fake and substandard fertilizer.

-- National carrier Vietnam Airlines has announced discounts on several domestic and international routes. The program is applicable to journeys between August 15, 2016 and March 31, 2017, and tickets will be sold from August 15 to 28.

-- Vietnamese shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, who has become a national phenomenon after winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal for Vietnam last week, snatched another silver medal in the 50 meter pistol category on Wednesday night, as part of the ongoing 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
