Vietnam city considers ban on alcoholic beverage sales after 10:00 pm

Competent agencies in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang are mulling over a ‘curfew’ that forbids the sale of alcoholic beverages after 10:00 pm.

Officials under the Ministry of Public Security convened a meeting on Thursday morning with traffic police forces under the Da Nang Department of Police to discuss resolutions to curb traffic violations in the central hub.

Municipal police officers have formulated a plan to ensure traffic safety, in which drivers under the influence of alcohol will be strictly monitored with regular inspections carried out at restaurants and beer bars.

The Da Nang Department of Police will request the local People’s Committee to issue a ban on the sale of beer and alcoholic drinks after 10:00 pm.

Punishment imposed upon those violating the proposed regulation would be discussed and determined later.

According to Colonel Le Ngoc, head of Da Nang’s traffic police unit, moral lessons have been added to the programs of driver training centers across the central city since February this year.

Drivers who wish to be granted a license would be additionally required to attend a 45-minute lecture on mortalities, which is designed by traffic police officers and approved by the municipal Department of Transport.

“Through the realistic images of traffic accidents, we hope drivers will be more aware of their responsibility on the streets and more willing to assist those who fall victim to crashes,” Col. Ngoc explained.
