-- The Ministry of National Defense should have policy on boosting the defense industry toward producing hi-tech and modern hardware, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested at a meeting with the ministry’s leaders on Wednesday.

-- Mexico City is willing to cooperate with Ho Chi Minh City in many fields, including health, technology and tourism. The announcement was made during the meeting between Mexico City Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera and Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council members on September 20 (local time) in Mexico.

-- Vietnam will eliminate more than 23,000 expired cars by the first day of 2017, including over 20,000 freight cars, according to the Vietnam Register.

-- A cyclone sweeping through Hai Ninh Commune in the north-central province of Quang Binh on Wednesday injured four people, including three from a family, local authorities said.

-- Authorized by the State President, Chairman of Lam Dong Province Doan Van Viet on Wednesday awarded a medal of bravery to Phan Van Bac, the truck driver who saved a passenger bus with brake problems early this month. More than 30 people were rescued in the incident.

-- On Wednesday afternoon, a Ministry of National Defense’s helicopter transferred fisherman Nguyen Duc Hai, 34, from an island off the northern city of Hai Phong to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi. Minister of Health Nguyen Kim Tien sent a dispatch to the Ministry of National Defense, requesting the helicopter to transfer to the patient after doctors on the island carried out an appendicitis surgery for him.

-- The PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemical Corporation has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan’s UBE Industries Ltd. and Sojitz Corporation to consider building an ammonia factory in Vietnam.

-- Authorities in the south-central province of Binh Dinh have licensed Japan’s Kei’s JSC to implement a project to grow fresh vegetables in the province, with an initial investment capital of around JPY3 million (nearly US$30,000).
