Vietnam Airlines Corporation (VAC) has offered to transport aid donated by organizations across the country to flood-stricken provinces of central Vietnam free of charge.
According to its announcement, relief goods will be transported by its subsidiary airlines for free to areas affected by recent flooding in the central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Quang Tri.
Heavy downpours that began late afternoon last Friday have blanketed the entire central provinces of Quang Binh and Thua Thien – Hue in flood waters high as 3 meters, killing at least 25 people and displacing many others, according to the country’s disaster prevention administration.
Flights by Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific, and VASCO, all VAC subsidiaries, that depart from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to the four provinces will prioritize relief goods in their freight compartment from Tuesday.
Senders of the goods will be exempt from transport fees, fuel surcharges, and any other fees connected with air transport, VAC said in its announcement, saying it wanted to share the difficulty with residents in disaster-stricken areas.
Eligible organizations include Vietnam Fatherland Front bodies at all levels, provincial and municipal People’s Committees, Vietnam Red Cross, and any other charitable foundation recognized by the Vietnamese Government.
Reservations for the free transport are available by phone on +84 972 999 398 (Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan) for the northern region and +84 984 320 868 (Mr. Nguyen Quoc Sy) for the southern region of Vietnam Airlines.
