-- Irish President Michael Daniel Higgins is scheduled to join talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi on Monday morning, as part of his state visit to Vietnam from November 5 to 14.

-- A fire broke out at a house on Bui Vien Street, located in the ‘backpacker area’ of Ho Chi Minh City, along with several explosion noises, on Sunday evening, terrifying tourists and local residents.

-- Over 160 junkies escaped from a rehab center in the southern province of Dong Nai on Sunday afternoon. About 562 addicts broke out from the same facility on October 23, of whom 80 still remain nowhere to be found.

-- A 40-year-old man in the central province of Quang Ngai has accused a local police officer of firing a rubber bullet gun at him as he fled after being busted for gambling on Thursday last week, causing his right eye to be seriously damaged.

-- Cafeterias at several hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have been discovered selling their products at a high price, raising concern among patients and their family members.

-- About 1,000 new buses running on compressed natural gas (CNG) will be put into operation in Ho Chi Minh City within 2017 as per the goal set by the municipal administration.

-- According to the General Department of Preventive Medicine, the number of Zika-infected patients has reached 40 across six localities in Vietnam, with Ho Chi Minh City topping the list with 29 cases.

-- A recent financial report of state-run power supplier Vietnam Electricity showed that the corporation was over VND475 trillion (US$21.1 million) in debt.

-- The Bach Dang night market has been renamed ‘Phu Quoc Night Market’ in the namesake tourist island off the southern province of Kien Giang, which is expected to be the new attraction of the island.

-- A young Vietnamese man was honored with four world records on memory by the Assist World Records Research Foundation, High Range Book of Records, and Incredible Book of Records in Delhi, India, on Sunday.

-- The prime minister has approved a new educational framework which would shorten undergraduate programs at universities from four to three years.
