A Vietnamese entertainer who has been jailed in the U.S. since March was handed an official sentence early Saturday (Vietnam time), but will have an early release next week, having then served half of his term in prison.

Hong Quang Minh, aka Minh Beo (Fatty Minh), was today sentenced to 18 months in California state prison and lifetime sex offender registration for sexually assaulting a minor boy and attempting to commit a lewd act on a fictitious minor, according to the Orange County District Attorney.

The 38-year-old Vietnamese pleaded guilty on August 10 to one felony count of oral copulation of a minor and one felony count of attempting to commit a lewd act upon a child under 14 years old.

Minh Beo has been detained since his arrest late March, after orally copulating a 16-year-old boy when the victim arrived for the audition the Vietnamese was holding for a video project.

The victim reported the crime to the Garden Grove Police Department (GGPD), which in the next day sent an undercover officer posing as a fictitious teen communicated with the defendant while further investigating the case.

Minh later set up a meeting with the officer, whom he believed to be a minor, with the intent to engage in oral copulation. The defendant was subsequently arrested by GGPD.

Prior to the crime, Minh traveled from Vietnam to visit Orange County and Atlanta, Georgia, according to the Orange County District Attorney.

According to the ruling, Minh Beo will have to serve half of this sentence in prison, or 270 days in jail, and the remaining is on probation in the community.

The Vietnamese, who worked as comedian and emcee for several programs back home, will reach his 270th days in prison on December 19  (U.S. time), and will have his deport procedure completed in the subsequent 72 hours.

As Minh Beo is not an American citizen, he will serve the nine-month suspended sentence at home. It appears he will return to Vietnam by the end of this year.
