-- The Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People’s Party should sign a new bilateral cooperation agreement for the 2017-18 period, chief of the latter's cabinet Mam Sarin proposed at a meeting with Dinh The Huynh, Vietnamese Politburo member and standing member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, in Hanoi on Monday.

-- The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely cooperate with its Lao counterpart to keep solidifying the two countries’ special relationship, visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said at a meeting with Party General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on Monday.


-- Storm Nock-ten is expected to weaken into a tropical depression as it approaches to Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago in the East Vietnam Sea later on Tuesday.

-- A new flood is forecast to hit central Vietnam between December 28 and January 2, 2017.

-- An appeals court has been opened today, December 27, for Pham Cong Danh, a former bank chairman behind a loss of more than VND9 trillion (US$401.79 million) from the state budget, who was sentenced to 30 year in prison at the first instance trial in September.

-- Police in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City, are investigating a case in which a group of three masked men were seen in CCTV footage setting a snail eatery in the area on fire at first light on Monday.

-- A truck loaded with logs lost control of its brake and crashed into a toll booth at the Dong Nai Bridge in the southern city of Bien Hoa on Monday.

-- A booming number of office towers and high-rise buildings are to blame for the frequent traffic congestion in Ho Chi Minh City, according to experts


-- Environmental police said on Monday they had caught Pak Vietnam Co. Ltd., located in the southern province of Dong Nai, red-handed dumping blackened liquid with a foul smell into the local Thi Vai River.


-- Vietnam's badminton star Nguyen Tien Minh tied the knot on Monday with his longtime girlfriend Vu Thi Trang, who accompanied him to Rio 2016 last summer.
