-- Ho Chi Minh City spent more than VND1.9 trillion (US$84.82 million) on this year’s Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, said Nguyen Thi Thu, deputy chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.

-- More than 10.7 million passengers used buses during the Tet holiday in Ho Chi Minh City, a 1.5 percent increase from the same period last year.

-- The People’s Committee in the southern city of Can Tho has recently decided to slap an over-VND220 million ($9,821) fine on a local food processing company for improperly discharging wastewater and violating environmental protection regulations.

-- One hundred and sixty died in road accidents in the six days from the beginning of the Lunar New Year (January 28) festival, meanwhile 150 people were hospitalized during the holiday over firecracker accidents, according to the Ministry of Health.

-- Ho Chi Minh City on February 8 will start the construction of two overpasses in Tan Binh District and Go Vap District near Tan Son Nhat International Airport to ease congestion.

-- After two weeks being put into operation, the Ho Chi Minh City traffic portal has received more than 70,000 visits to its website at www.giaothong.hochiminhcity.gov.vn and via its app. The peak day saw more than 5,000 visits.

-- Kan Noboyoshi, director of Japanese SSC Company, said he had signed contracts to import five products which were completely processed in Vietnam, including fish and fried vegetables.

-- The Hanoi People’s Committee has recently approved a project to bring 20 cherry blossom trees and 10,000 branches for an exhibition at Guom (Sword) Lake in March this year.
