-- Emmanuel Hoog, CEO of the Agence France-Presse (AFP) international news agency headquartered in Paris, was received by Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang on Thursday during the former’s visit to Vietnam to boost cooperation with local news agencies.

-- A number of Vietnamese aviation officials have been disciplined by Vietnam Air Traffic Management (VATM) for their gross negligence that led to two traffic controllers at Hai Phong Province’s Cat Bi International Airport abandoning their post earlier this month, posing great harm to air traffic safety.

-- Taiwanese garment firm Kwong Lung – Meko, whose factory in southern Vietnam’s Can Tho City was engulfed in raging fire last week, has been found to store 18,600 liters of oil underneath their venue, unbeknownst to firefighters who responded to the scene, Tran Thi Ngoc Diep, chief of Can Tho’s Fire Police Department said on Thursday.

-- The foul smell reportedly coming from the Lee & Man mill, a US$1.2 billion paper manufacturing project in southern Hau Giang Province developed by Hong Kong’s Lee & Man Paper, has been found to originate from the mill’s sludge treatment area, according to Le Quoc Viet, deputy director of Hau Giang’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade on Thursday imposed new anti-dumping duties on imported galvanized steel from China and South Korea, with the tax rates on Chinese steel ranging between 3.17 and 38.34 percent, and those from South Korea, between 7.02 and 19 percent.

-- Starting April, ticket prices for one-day boat tours around Vietnam’s iconic Ha Long Bay in northern Quang Ninh Province will double from VND120,000 (US$5.36) to VND200,000-250,000 ($8.93-11.16) per person, according to the provincial administration.

-- Nguyen Quang Dung, director of Vietnamese flick Da co hoai lang, which hit local theaters last week, has apologized for the accidental use of a photoshopped portrait of ex-First Lady of China Soong Mei-ling as a portrait of worship for a dead character in the film.
