Politics -- Vietnamese Navy's warship 011-Dinh Tien Hoang left for Singapore on Monday to take part in an International Maritime Review, as part of the Western Pacific Naval Symposium Multilateral Sea Exercise. 


-- Nearly 300 tourists were stranded aboard a boat amid waters off southern Vietnam as a boat heading to Phu Quoc Island had to stop midway after its engine was tangled in fishing nets on Monday.

-- The U.S. naval ship USNS Fall River (T-EPF-4) docked at the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on Monday, commencing the Pacific Partnership 2017 mission, with the participation of personnel from the UK, Australia and Japan. 

-- Customs officers at Tan Son Nhat International airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday found three pieces of rhino horn, weighing 1.5kg and costing some VND2 billion (US$89,286), hidden in some children's toys in the luggage of a Vietnamese passenger arriving from Africa.

-- A seven-seater Fortuner crashed into a motorbike before causing a serial accident involving two taxis on Phan Dang Luu Street, Phu Nhuan District in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, with the motorcyclist hospitalized with severe injuries.

-- Five suspects in the assault at the Hanoi Medical University Hospital, where 20 thugs stormed into the clinic and cut the throat of a male patient on Sunday, have been arrested, police said on Monday afternoon.


-- Real GDP growth in Vietnam will average 6.4 percent in 2017 and 2018, up from 6.2 percent in 2016, according to the latest Moody's outlook.

-- Automobile sales in April fell 15 percent annually to 21,942 units, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association said in a report released on Monday.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is slated to hold a meeting with the Vietnamese business community on May 17 to illustrate his government’s commitment to support local entrepreneurs, the Government Office announced on Monday.


-- A new art event, “Ho Chi Minh City Street Show,” will be held at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in the city's downtown area from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday after the inaugural show on May 13, the municipal tourism department announced Monday.


-- Argentina U-20s arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday for a friendly game on Wednesday with Vietnam U-20s, as part of the latter's preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea later this month.
