Police in the southern Vietnamese province of An Giang have arrested five male suspects accused of gang raping one 13-year-old girl and attempting to abuse another.
Nguyen Phuoc Hau, 20, Tran Nguyen Hoang P., 17, Le Quoc K., 17, Huynh Tan D., 16, and Tran Van Nga, 18, are all being held for sexual assault on two juvenile girls, T.P.T. and T.T.V., both 13.
All five of the suspects and their two alleged victims are from Oc Eo Town and Vong Dong Commune in Thoai Son District, An Giang, as confirmed by Major General Bui Be Tu, director of the provincial Department of Police on Monday afternoon.
Records from Thoai Son District police reveal that a group of eight young men had asked T. and V. to come with them for an overnight party at a local motel on the night of May 30.
They rented two rooms, one for the two girls and the other for the boys who used it to host their party.
The alleged gang rape of T. occurred at around 2:00 am in the morning of May 31.
Upon receiving the complaint, officers summoned the young men to appear at the police station and brought the victims to the hospital for evaluation.
According to the suspects’ statements, T. was drunk and returned to her motel room after the party had finished.
Three of the eight boys also fell asleep, while the other five went to the girls’ room, began unbuttoning T.’s shirt and then took turns in raping her.
One of the suspects also attempted to sexually assault V. but was met with fierce resistance.
The owner of the motel claimed that the two girls had carried no ID, and added that he had allowed them in because of their apparent close relationship with some of the young men.
After hearing a scream, he rushed to the room and found T. naked, while V. was unconscious, both reeking of alcohol.
A police investigation continues.
