-- China’s construction of aircraft hangars on three islands belonging to Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago in the East Vietnam Sea is a serious negligence of international laws, Pham Ngoc Minh Trang, a UK-based expert in international laws, said in a piece to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

-- Vietnamese Minister of Transport Truong Quang Nghia on Thursday asserted the urgency of constructing Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province, as he said the overloaded Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City will have no more space for expansion by 2022, despite an adjacent 175ha area being home to a luxury golf course.

-- A 7.9-kilometer sewer system is being installed in Ho Chi Minh City, upon the completion of which sewage in District 2 and Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe area will be removed of pollutants before being discharged into the environment.

-- A number of beekeepers in north-central Ha Tinh Province have voiced their objection to a request by the local police that they paid VND3 million (US$132) a month as  ‘beekeeping fee’ for police officers who work extra hard to maintain order in the area.

-- A security guard at the radiotherapy fuel manufacturing facility of Kien Giang General Hospital in southern Vietnam, where a heavy radiation shield was mysteriously stolen last month, was found dead while on duty early Thursday.

-- Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Transport has proposed the evacuation of residents in 40 landslide-prone locations in eight districts in the city for safety reasons while local authorities are working intensively to combat the issue.

-- Contaminated reverse osmosis (RO) water is being listed as the main suspect behind the deaths of eight patients with chronic kidney diseases whose condition became critical after receiving dialysis at Hoa Binh General Hospital last week.

-- A helicopter taxi service will soon be launched to transport passengers between the Times Square building in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Vung Tau Airport in the neighboring city of Vung Tau, offering tourists to Vietnam a unique luxurious experience.

-- Engines on the dozens of steel-clad fishing boats built as part of a government-sponsored project to modernize the fleet of fishermen in south-central Binh Dinh Province have been founded to be unofficially distributed, a representative from Japanese engine manufacturer Mitsubishi said on Thursday.

-- The popular backpackers’ street of Bui Vien in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City will become a walking street from 7:00 pm to 2:00 am the next day every weekend starting July 15, in a bid to offer tourists a more immersive experience into the vibrant local lifestyle, according to a recent announcement by the city’s deputy chairman Tran Vinh Tuyen.
