-- Vietnam’s spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang at a press briefing on Thursday demanded that China, as a major regional and global power, should “act responsibly and constructively” in the safeguarding of peace and stability in the East Vietnam Sea, in response to a question on the U.S. Department of Defense’ denouncement of China’s elevated construction and militarization on Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago.

-- While many ongoing mega projects in Vietnam are slowed down due to insufficient capital allocation, as many as VND198,379 billion (US$8.74 billion) in approved government budget is facing difficulty for disbursement as a result of red tapes, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said at a Q&A session on Thursday.

-- Twenty-three municipalities and provinces across Vietnam, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, will undergo an extensive change in their area code for phone numbers starting Saturday, a process that will take a month to complete, during which period phone numbers in these localities can be reached through both the old and new area code.

-- Hanoi police have busted an extensive ring of papers and seals forgers who had been found to produce thousands of fake university degrees, certificates and seals of local authorities, making over VND500 million ($22,000) in profit since 2015.

-- Businesses in Vietnam are faced with over 3,400 established requirements for operation, mostly in the field of industry and trade, which challenge and slow down their development, according to experts at a business forum on Thursday hosted by Vietnam’s Central Institute for Economic Management.

-- Those who conduct businesses on Facebook in Vietnam and intentionally evade taxes despite requests from authorities will be named and shamed on public media outlets, according to a new plan by Ho Chi Minh City tax department that looks to tighten tax collection in e-commerce.

-- Vietnam’s leading dairy company Vinamilk has been named among the top ten companies in Asia by Asia300, an exclusive list of the biggest and fastest-growing companies from 11 economies across the continent put together by Nikkei, Japan’s flagship publication and the world's largest financial newspaper.

-- Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Thursday held a press meeting in Hanoi to announce an upcoming high-level dialogue on sustainable tourism, an initiative by Vietnam that looks to introduce guidelines on developing sustainable tourism within Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members, as part of the APEC Vietnam 2017 agenda.

-- The developer of Ocean View Nha Trang, a luxury villas and resorts complex that spans 7.2 hectares at the end of Nha Trang City’s seaside Tran Phu Street, has been found to have mortgaged their property without the knowledge of investors and villa buyers.

-- Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet Air is offering 1,000 promotional tickets priced from only US$0 for Ho Chi Minh City – Yangon flights that depart from July 10 to December 20 and Hanoi – Yangon flights between September 6 and December 20 this year.

-- The Vietnamese outlet of the Japanese convenient store franchise 7-Eleven was opened in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday.
